This 40' Double Sheathed Wood Reefer with Vertical Brake Wheel is painted box car red with bright red sides and ends with white lettering.  This car has a very "retro" look with its 1950's paint scheme.  Designed and built by Swift in April of 1939 and later serviced in Chicago in April of 1953, this meat reefer travelled from the Midwest slaughter houses in Chicago, St. Louis and Kansas City to all the big cities in the entire United States.  Established in 1875 in Chicago by Gustavus Swift, the Swift meat reefer fleet was the largest in the U.S. by 1930, and in 1931 the entire fleet was sold to The General American Company.
