This 36' Wood-Sheathed Ice Reefer with Steel Truss Rod Underframe is painted box car red with yellow sides and ends with black lettering.  The "Swift's Premium Hams" logo is shown in red lettering.  Gustavus Swift started in the industry in 1855.  By 1881 he was sending 3,000 carcusses a week to the Boston area and his Chicago based fleet numbered 200.  Despite his early entry into the industry, he never achieved the size of the Armour Company.
