These 40' Standard Box Cars with Plug and Sliding Doors were painted brown with white lettering.  The "NP" Logo is painted with a red and blue tear drops surrounded by a white circle showing black lettering.  The area located left of the plug door was narrow, so the Northern Pacific stenciled the large initials "NP" in a staggered arrangement.  This fleet of boxcars was built by the Northern Pacific at the Brainard Minnesota Shops with a combination doors for dual purpose use: lumber or grain.
