This 40' Drop Bottom Gondola is painted black with large silver lettering and stenciling.  This is one of 300 Gondolas used by the Western Pacific Railway for hauling anything from coal or pipe to sugar beets.  Sometime between 1928 and 1930 they were upgraded with new steel doors and ends.  Although these general service cars worked hard for decades, many survived well into the late 1970's.
