The Santa Fe Circle Cross Herald is shown on the left side of the car door painted black. From a 175 car fleet #1796 was built at the Santa Fe Topeka Shops in February of 1962 as a Class Rr-71 car. Equipped with Trane Detroit Diesel Motors to run the refrigeration equipment, wears Barber Roller Bearing Trucks and has a capacity of 122,000 lbs. The small circle-cross heralds are hi-reflection devices placed on the car sides at automobile head light height and were used on all Santa Fe cars. Santa Fe changed the reporting mark code in 1953 for all their refrigerator despatch cars. The letters "SFR" stood for Santa Fe Refrigerator. For this car, the last letter "C", is the code for Mechanical Refrigerator Cars that are equipped with adjustable load dividers. (RPL). | | | | |
