This 40' Double Sheathed Box Car with 1 & 1/2 Doors, Vertical Brake Wheel is painted brown with white lettering.  This car was built on October 30, 1916 and was designed to accomodate the shipping of automobiles.  It had a 2,946 cu. ft., 80,000 lb. capacity, and a door opening of 12' 6".  It rolled on Andrews Trucks and also featured a steel underframe and fishbelly sides.  From the 1920's to the passing of the steam era, automobiles were shipped only in box cars powered by diesel locomotives as steam locomotives could cause damage to the automobile cargo.
