The North Western Pacific was a regional railroad that serviced the North Coast of California. It was started in the late 1880's as a combined enterprise between the Santa Fe and the Southern Pacific Railroads. In 1936, the Santa Fe sold its interests to the Southern Pacific which assumed full and complete control of the lline. In September of 1983, the SP announced that they were closing down the maintenance intense NWP lline. Since then a number of organizations have attempted to reopen this line but have all resulted in bankruptcy failure. | | | | |
