This 50' Gondola with Fishbelly Sides and Drop Ends is painted black with white lettering.  A large "P&LE" road name is shown in the middle of the side of the car painted yellow.  The Pittsburg & Lake Erie Railroad was formed on May 11th, 1875 with the company having their headquarters located in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.  The P&LE was nicknamed "The Little Giant" since the tonnage that it moved was much greater and out of proportion to its small route mileage.  It was a specialized railroad that serviced the Steel Mills of the Pittsburg area and derived its revenue from loads of coal, coke, iron ore, limestone and steel.  The eventual closing of the steel mills  led to the end of the P&LE as an independent railroad line in 1992.
