The North Western Refrigerator Line Company was set up in Chicago, Illinois as a private refrigerator car line that was established in 1924.  By 1978, only 25 NWX cars were left in service and these 25 cars were finally stored then dismantled in 1984.  Three of these cars are presently on display at the Mid Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom, Wisconsin.
